                      Dedications
I dedicate this book to my uncle, Derek Walton who started my love for magic
many years ago, my uncle recently passed away so this is for him.
I also want to dedicate this book to my wife and children who have graciously
put up with me spending endless weeks, days and hours on this and without
their support it would not have been achieved.
Last but not least I want to dedicate this to my good friend and Mentor Peter
Turner…….thank you for believing in me brother.

                          Preface
Welcome to Navigator, I hope you enjoy it, before we get into the effect I
would like to take a moment to introduce who I am for those of you who
don’t know me, my background is in magic, like many stories out there
mine begins from being shown a magic at a young age, a trick was shown
to me by my uncle. I must have been around the age of 8 years old, it was
Christmas time and we were visiting, I remember we were talking and all
of a sudden he stretched out his arm and grabbed into thin air, I will never
forget the feeling of awe and astonishment that I felt as he pulled out a
red handkerchief from his closed fist, which only seconds ago had been
empty, he then proceeded to change my world forever as he put the
handkerchief back into his fist and slowly opened his hand to show me it
had vanished, I had nowhere to go, it wasn’t a feeling of being fooled but
rather a feeling of total wonder. I had experienced magic for the first time
and I was well and truly hooked, over the weeks and months that followed
we had some fun with it, often throwing the handkerchief invisibly
through the air to each other, much to the wonder of family and friends
at family gatherings, I was in my element.
Magic became my hobby through my teens and by the time I reached my
twenties the hobby turned into a passion and I began reading everything
I could get my hands on and performing as often as I could, then one day
a man popped on channel 4 who appeared to be reading minds for real,
like many I thought he was a master at reading body language, his name
was Derren Brown. This led to my fascination with mentalism which I
began studying intensely, at this time my day job and career as a youth
worker was taking off and I spent my 20’s concentrating on incorporating
my magic and mentalism with youth work by performing effects for young
people who had wandered down the wrong path in life, in order to take
their minds away from their troubled home or school life. I eventually
became head of year in a high school and completed my qualifications in
Motivational interviewing, Cognitive behaviour therapy and NLP.

                                     4
My career took a slight turn in another direction in my late 20’s when I
decided to try my hand at being a Jack Sparrow (pirates of the Caribbean)
lookalike, this brought me more success than I could have imagined. It
took me around the country performing at major events, birthday parties,
interviews and cooperate events, I learnt the art of how to approach
tables and how to be entertaining, a lot of lessons were learnt and it is a
part of my life I will always hold close to my heart.
I then had the privilege of meeting Peter Turner for a coffee as he lives
not far from me, I loved his work and we quickly became good friends and
I also consider him my mentor, this turned what was a passion for magic
and mentalism into a complete obsession and I began to live and breathe
mentalism.
I have now gone back to being a head of year in a high school and I once
again use mentalism every day to help the young people who struggle in
school by performing this wonderful art and performing in assemblies and
so on, I also perform regularly at a pub/restaurant going by my performing
name of Ed Seer.
I also enjoy running the magicians and mentalists book test group on
facebook.

I hope you enjoy using Navigator as much as I do.

             Acknowledgements
Firstly I would like to thank Peter Turner, Peter is my friend but also my
mentor and if it wasn’t for Pete believing in me this journey would not
have even begun. I would also like to thank him for his guidance,
contribution and added comments on this effect that have helped shape
into what it is today.
I would also like to thank Mick Wilson, for the endless hours of discussing
ideas on skype, for his contributions that helped shape and further
develop this when I was hitting my head against a wall and for his patience
and encouragement throughout the process, I will never be able to thank
him enough, we have literally spent hours playing around with ideas on
this. Mick is a genius and a friend.
To Michael Murray for his support and encouragement and for permission
to use certain principles in this.
To Fraser Parker for his advice and letting me test this out on him in the
early stages.
To Phedon Bilek for his advice and ideas that further developed this and
for his encouragement and guidance.
To Steve Haresign for printing the book and for his fantastic support.

I will be forever grateful to all of you.
Thank you.

                     Introduction
Thank you so much for purchasing Navigator. Navigator began with an
obsession of wanting to be able to guess a country a spectator was
imagining in their minds, It had to have relevance and meaning, I didn’t
want to use gimmicks or impression pads (although I love both and use
them). I wanted it to seem as fair as fair could be and be and be something
that I could do anytime, anyplace with anyone. I started to explore
different ideas and methods and spilled over this for hours and hours on
end, often late into the night and early morning.
I tried lots of methods and nothing seemed to click into place, then one
night while laid in bed I had a lightbulb moment, RESTERAUNTS.
I was extremely proud of this and showed Mick Wilson it over Skype, Mick
loved it and he let me talk endlessly about it, constantly pushing it further
and further until I felt like it was completed.
Performance wise I have worked it to the ground in various situations and
settings. It has been tested continuously over a long period of time on
people from all over the world as I work in a diverse school with over 50
different nationalities. I have worked this with all age groups and it
absolutely flaws people every time.
Please note that this is not a classic anagram, it is a hybrid anagram in the
sense that it is a short anagram that leads to a group of outs as opposed
to a longer anagram that leads to a single outs, even if you are not a lover
of anagrams I am positive you will love this.
Over the coming pages we will discuss the 3 different variants of this and
how and why it works.
I thoroughly hope you enjoy performing this as much as I do.

                                     9
                     Variant one
Effect
A spectator is asked to imagine going to a restaurant, in their minds they
arrive at the restaurant and imagine ordering their meal, they imagine
tasting the food and imagine which country the restaurant and food is
associated with, you now tell them the country they are thinking of.
Script
Performer:
Ben I want you to imagine you have just got home from work and you
decide to take your wife out for a meal. You decide to take her to a really
nice restaurant, you know, the kind that serves a specific type of cuisine.
Your wife runs upstairs to get changed and after what seems like a six
hour wait she returns. You look up and see her entering the room and
your breath is taken away with how beautiful she looks. You arrive at
this restaurant that serves your favourite cuisine and you order your
food. Your food arrives and I want you to imagine taking that first
delicious mouthful, as you do your mind begins to wander to the country
that this restaurant and food is associated with. You begin to imagine
the sights and sounds of this country, maybe you have been there before.
Focus on the country for a second for me, I find it easier with some people
to pick up on words rather than pictures and images. We will try first
with the word, just imagine the country written in the air as a word and
I will begin to pick up on a few letters.
Method
Now there are a few ways this can go and we will talk about each of them,
first I will explain the basics of the method, it uses a progressive/hybrid
anagram and there are three variants. I find anagrams extremely
                                    10
powerful, examples are Phedon Bileks fantastic hybrid anagram, Proteus
and Pete Turners amazing Isabella star 1, 2 and 3.
I have worked and worked this with at the time of writing a 100% hit rate
and this is why it works, the script is absolutely crucial to this working for
each of the variants and the reason is in the linguistics used, let’s take a
look at the first crucial element of the script. You decide to take her to a
really nice restaurant, you know, the kind that serves a specific type of
cuisine. This immediately suggests that this is a restaurant that sells a
specific food, these are the most common ones, I am yet to have anyone
think of something other than these.
Sushi- Japan
Tapas- Spain
Chinese-China
Mexican- Mexico
Pizzeria- Italy
Frankie and bennies/TGI Fridays- America
Indian- India
Thai- Thailand
Greek- Greece
Turkish- Turkey
French Cuisine- France
Caribbean food- Caribbean
Moroccan cuisine- Morocco
There is also another element in the script that suggests it has to be one
of these.
                                     11
Your wife runs upstairs to get changed and after what seems like a six
hour wait she returns. You look up and see her entering the room and
your breath is taken away with how beautiful she looks.
This now eliminates the likes of KFC, Fish and chips, McDonalds, Burger
king and IKEA’s Swedish meatballs etc as the line implies your wife has
taken ages getting ready and ensures they choose a nice restaurant, as
well as getting a few giggles at the joke of her spending six hours getting
ready (please note at this point, this could also be used the other way
round if you are performing for a woman, the script simply becomes your
husband/partner comes home from work and decides to take you to a
nice restaurant, you know, the kind that sells a specific cuisine, you run
upstairs and put on your favourite dress, you do your hair and makeup,
you come downstairs and you can see that his breath is taken away by
how beautiful you look).
We will look at variant one anagram below.
A-----No-----Mexico, Morocco, Greece, Turkey
I-----No-----Japan, France
C-----No-----Spain, Italy India, Thailand
B-----No----- America or china
Yes to all letters = Caribbean
Now there are different ways this plays out, let’s break this down and
cover each possible outcome carefully.
Following on from the script:
Performer: There is an A in this yes
Spectator: No
At this point we know its Mexico, Morocco, Greece or Turkey
                                    12
Performer: ok I am struggling with the letters, I feel you are more of a
visual person, in your mind imagine the continent this country is in,
(pause) this isn’t Europe is it?
We ask this as Mexico and Morocco are obviously not in Europe and
Greece is, with Turkey the spectator will hesitate even for a split second
as Turkey is a nation straddling Eastern Europe and the Middle East, so
let’s imagine they are thinking of Turkey.
Spectator: (pauses for a second) erm..
We now know its Turkey as Mexico they would say no to Europe and
Greece they would say yes to Europe as they are both instantly obvious.
Performer: ok it doesn’t matter, instead imagine you are in this country,
imagine the sights and sounds of this country, I feel this is a hot country,
there’s a rich culture, almost an ancient culture but I feel this has a
modern upcoming vibe about it, this is Turkey yes
Participant: Yes
If they say yes at the point of you saying this isn’t Europe is it? You know
its Greece, this is how that plays out
Performer: yeah I felt that this was in Europe, imagine this country for
me, ok I see a lot of white buildings and also a lot of green, this is a hot
country, this is Greece yes.
Participant: Yes
If they say no to Europe, you reply with the following
Spectator: no I didn’t think so as I’m seeing this as a country far away, a
hot country, just keep saying this over and over in your mind………like
Mexico Mexico Mexico (here we are using the repeat it principle
popularised by Derren Brown)

                                    13
If Mexico hits then great, if it doesn’t we know its Morocco.
So now we have covered a no for A, next we will look at a yes to A and a
no for ‘I’
Following on from the script:
Performer: There is an A in this yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: and an I as well
Spectator: no
We know its France or Japan and we will use the repeat it principle again.
Performer: I am definitely getting the letter I coming through, ok don’t
worry, just imagine this country, imagine the sights you can see, and the
sounds you can hear, ok this is making more sense I think, just say this
country over and over in your mind…..like France France France…(No
hit) this is Japan yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: ah that’s why I was getting an I was picking up on sushi
If France hits I usually say “yes I thought so as I was getting a letter I
coming through and a strong image of a tall tower which must have been
coming from the Eiffel tower in Paris, I must have been confusing that
with the letter I”.
So now we have looked at a no for ‘A’, a yes for ‘A’ and a no for ‘I’, lets
now look at a yes for ‘A’ a yes for ‘I’ and a no for ‘C’
Following on from the script:
Performer: Focus on the letters for me, there’s an A in this yes

                                    14
Spectator: Yes
Performer: and an I as well yes
Spectator: yes
Performer: I’m picking up on a C as well yes
Spectator: No
Performer: Oh, So you didn’t go for Croatia then?....... So this is not in
Europe?
At this point it looks like we were going for Croatia and Europe from the
start as A, I and C are all in the word Croatia
Spectator: No wasn’t thinking of Croatia and no it’s not in Europe
Performer: That’s strange I was picking up on a European country and
specifically Croatia, never mind, just imagine this country for me,
imagine the sights and the sounds
At this point we know it’s either India or Thailand
Performer: ok I am seeing an exotic country and I am seeing spices, this
is a very hot country isn’t it!
Please trust me and do not let the no answers put you off, in the
participants mind you are way off and there is now no possible way for
you to know what country they are thinking of, however we now know its
India or Thailand as Spain and Italy are obviously European countries, we
will use the repeat it principle again (let’s pick it back up based on this
Participant: yes
Performer: ok just say the country over and over in your mind……….. like
Thailand Thailand Thailand

                                    15
If the participant reacts then you have a hit, if they don’t you know its
India.
Likewise, if you get a yes on Europe you know its Italy or Spain and the
script changes to
Performer: Oh, So you didn’t go for Croatia?....... So this is not in Europe?
Spectator: Yes it is in Europe but it’s not Croatia
Because we had a yes on Europe we now know its Italy or Spain
Performer: Yes I thought so as I am getting a very European vibe, lots of
mountains and fruit trees, Just say this over and over in your mind………
like Spain Spain Spain
And use the repeat it principle as described before, if it hits great if it
doesn’t it doesn’t matter as we know its Italy.
Let’s now look at a yes to A, I and C and a no for letter B
Following on from the script
Performer: There’s an A in this yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: And an I as well yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: I am also picking up on the letter C
Spectator: Yes
Performer: ok look at me you’re doing great, keep concentrating on the
letters for me, scream this country in your mind, that’s not a letter B is
it?

                                      16
Spectator: No, sorry
Now we know its America or China and we will once again use the repeat
it principle
Performer: Ok, don’t worry, just imagine actually being in this country
for me, imagine the sights and the sounds you hear around you and as
you do just say this country over and over in your mind………like China
China China.
As before if this hits then great, if it doesn’t just keep going and reveal
America.
A yes to all the letters A, I, C and B will be Caribbean!! Without a single no
answer.
If you do not want to use the repeat it principle here’s what you can do,
at the point where you are down to two countries let’s say Spain and Italy,
take a business card and write Spain and place it face down on the table,
now look at the participant and tell them they are thinking of Italy, if they
react casually take the business card and put it away while they are
reacting, if they say no, look confused and upset and say what was it? They
will say Spain, you sigh for a second and then say thank goodness for that
as you turn over the card saying Spain (full credit to Peter Turner)
Another Idea is once you are down to two countries let’s say Spain and
Italy again, write Spain, cross it out and write Italy underneath, place this
face down on the table and ask them which country they went for if they
say Spain you turn the card over and say ahh I should have trusted my
instincts I changed my mind at the last minute and crossed it out, If they
say Italy you turn the card over and say I’m glad I changed my mind at the
last minute!!! (Credit to Peter Turner)
And that is variant one, I hope you like it, we will now look at variant 2.

                                     17
                           Variant 2
      No Europe Yes
                              Erm

Ok so that is the anagram for variant 2, I want to thank Mick Wilson at this
point as if it wasn’t for the hours spent on skype we wouldn’t have this
variant, this was the result of batting ideas back and forth with Mick. We
will once again break each section down and cover all possible outcomes
in detail. So we start with the script, but notice that the script changes
here slightly towards the end as we will be asking the spectator to imagine
this on a map with the country written in the middle like so:

Asking the spectator to imagine it like this makes total sense as to why we
are picking up on both the location and also as to why we are naming
letters as they are imagining both.
We will begin with the script again and take it step by step from there.
Script

                                    19
this restaurant that serves your favourite cuisine and you order your
food. Your food arrives and I want you to imagine taking that first
delicious mouthful, as you do your mind begins to wander to the country
that this restaurant and food is associated with. You begin to imagine
the sights and sounds of this country, maybe you have been there before.
I find it easier with some people to pick up on words rather than pictures
however you may be more of a visual person. To to be sure I’m going to
ask you to imagine the Continent this country is in and then to imagine
zooming in on a world map and seeing the word written in the middle of
the country. I will then try and work with both the image and the word.
Notice the script has changed ever so slightly at the end this time to fit
with this anagram
Let’s begin by looking at a ‘no’ for Europe.
Spectator: Ok
Performer: Let’s start with the continent, (pause) this isn’t Europe is it?
Spectator: No
Now we know from the anagram that this is now
America
Japan
China
Thailand
India
Mexico
Morocco
Or Caribbean
Performer: No I didn’t think so as I am seeing this as a more exotic
country, zoom in on the letters of this country for me, imagine seeing
                                     20
the word really clear written across this country on the map…. focus on
just the word……. There is a letter I in this!!
Spectator: No
Performer: ok let’s start again, imagine actually being in this country,
visualise it clear in your mind, and as you do just say this country over
and over in your mind……..like Japan Japan Japan
If Japan doesn’t hit we know its Morocco.
All we are doing is remembering I N C. Let’s look at a ‘yes’ for I and a ‘no’
for N
Performer: Imagine the continent for me, (pause) this isn’t Europe is it?
Spectator: No
Performer: No I didn’t think so as I am seeing this as a more exotic
country, zoom in on the letters of this country for me. Imagine seeing
the word really clear written across this country on the map…. focus on
just the word……. There is a letter I in this!!
Spectator: Yes
Performer: good you’re doing great, I’m seeing a letter N also yes?
Spectator: No
We Know its Mexico or America.
Performer: I am definitely seeing an N or possibly an M, Just focus on the
sights and sounds of this country for me and as you do just keep saying
it over and over in your mind…….like Mexico Mexico Mexico
If it doesn’t hit its America!!!!!
Let’s look at a ‘yes’ for I a ‘yes’ for N and a ‘No’ for C.
Following on from the script:
Performer: Imagine the continent for me, (pause) this isn’t Europe is it?
Spectator: No
                                       21
Performer: No I didn’t think so as I am seeing this as a more exotic
country, zoom in on the letters of this country for me, imagine seeing
the word really clear written across this country on the map…. focus on
just the word……. There is a letter I in this!!
Spectator: Yes
Performer: good you’re doing great, I’m seeing a letter N aswel yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: Ok I think I have this, there is a C aswel Yes?
Spectator: No
Performer: ok so I think I am way off here, it’s not what I thought, just
imagine seeing the sights of this country, imagine being there, ok I am
seeing elephants for some reason, and its hot, very hot in fact, just say
this in your mind for me over and over………like India India India
If this doesn’t hit we know its Thailand.
A ‘yes’ for I, N and C and we know it’s going to be the Caribbean or China.
So now let’s look at the ‘yes’ for Europe outcome.
Following on from the script:
Performer: So, imagine the continent for me, (pause) this isn’t Europe is
it?
Spectator: Yes
Now we know its Spain, Italy, France or Greece.
Performer: Yea I thought so, I think I see this clearly, do me a favour just
imagine the country on the world map with the word written across it, I
will try and pick up on the letters, There’s an E in this yes?
Spectator: No
Performer: that’s strange, I was seeing lots of Mountains and Fruit trees,
I was picking up on France for some reason, just imagine the sights and

                                     22
sounds of this country for me, and keep saying it in your mind……like
Italy Italy Italy
If it doesn’t hit we know its Spain
A yes for letter E looks like this
Performer: Imagine the continent for me, (pause) this isn’t Europe is it?
Spectator: Yes
Again we know its Spain, Italy, France or Greece
Performer: Yea I thought so, I think I see this clearly, do me a favour just
imagine the country on a world map with the word written across it, I
will try and pick up on the letters, there’s an E in this yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: Good you’re doing great and also imagine the sights and
sounds of this country, imagine actually being there for me as you say it
over and over in your mind………… like France France France
If it doesn’t hit we know its Greece
And that is variant 2, I hope you enjoy using this variant.

                          Variant 3
Ok so Variant 3 is a different way to perform this, let’s start by looking at
how this variant works and then, as before, we will cover each outcome
step by step and I will explain how this works. So in this variant we will be
asking the spectator to imagine a map held up in front of them and to
imagine whether the country they are thinking of is in the West i.e. Europe
and the Americas or East i.e. Asia. If you look at the diagram below you
will see that the performer will imagine this differently in reverse i.e. East,
from the performers perspective will become West and vice versa, we will
cover how this plays out when we look at the performance.

                                                    Performer’s perspective

            EAST WEST

       WEST EAST

 Spectators Perspective

                                      24
Let’s look at how they will imagine the map in more detail

                                               Performer’s perspective

    EAST WEST

-

    WEST EAST

    Spectators Perspective

                                  25
Ok before we take a look at how this plays out let’s take a look at the
anagram
East
I – no – Japan
T- no – China, India
Both letters = Thailand

West
I – no – France, Greece
A – no – Mexico
E – no – Spain, Italy
All three letter = America, Caribbean
Erm = Turkey

I am super proud of this variant and again a big thankyou to Mick Wilson
who allowed me to talk his ear off for hours on end and offer crucial
guidance and advice on this, and also to Phedon for his idea of using
visuals.
I really hope this variant makes sense so far, if it doesn’t please don’t
worry as I am sure it will when we begin to explore how nicely this plays
out in performance.

                                   26
Script
Performer: Ben I want you to imagine you have just got home from work
and you decide to take your wife out for a meal. You decide to take her
to a really nice restaurant, you know, the kind that serves a specific type
of cuisine. Your wife runs upstairs to get changed and after what seems
like a six hour wait she returns. You look up and see her entering the
room and your breath is taken away with how beautiful she looks. You
arrive at this restaurant that serves your favourite cuisine and you order
your food.
To be sure I’m going to
work with both the image and the word.

Performer: Just imagine a map of the world held up in front of you (make
a square shape in the air)
Performer: now imagine if this country you are thinking of is in the east
or the west
Spectator: ok done that
Performer: good, and just focus on the countries location for me, ok so
this is in the east yes
Now if they say yes to east we are home and dry, if they don’t you say the
following
Spectator: No
Performer: my apologies that’s my fault I am imagining the map the
other way around (do a crossing motion with your arms to represent that
if you turn it round you are seeing what they are seeing in their minds)

                                    27
Now we know its West and we are home and dry lets carry on with the
performance.
Performer: ok Imagine this country for me on the map with the country
written in the middle IN REALLY BIG LETTERS…….LIKE
MORROCO, (this is done here to get Morocco out of the way in this
variant as we need to be down to two countries here, if it hits you have a
miracle if it doesn’t it doesn’t matter as you were using an example)
Performer: ok let’s begin, there is a letter I in this yes
Spectator: No
We now know its Greece or France and will continue in the following way
Performer: ok, as I am struggling to pick up on the word, imagine
actually being in this country for me, ah ok, I see a lot of green, I see
trees, fruit trees, there’s a lot of heat this is a warm country Just keep
saying your country over and over in your mind……….like France France
France
If it doesn’t hit then its Greece.

Keeping on the west as described before let’s look at a ‘yes’ for the letter
I and a ‘no’ for the letter A.
Performer: ok Imagine this country for me with the country written in
the middle, ok there is a letter I in this yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: ok I think I have this there is a letter A as well yes
Spectator: No
Performer: I am definitely seeing the letter A and the letter ‘I’ I am seeing
this as a European country, I am getting Spanish Spanish Spanish, just
imagine actually being in this country for me, (pause) Ok this is making

                                      28
sense I think I know why I was getting Europe and Spain, this is a country
with a very Spanish feel to it, this is Mexico yes
Spectator: Yes!!!!!!
Now we will look at a ‘yes’ to the letter I a ‘yes’ to the letter A and a ‘no’
for the letter E keeping on the fact we know its west and following the
previous script.
Performer: ok Imagine this country for me on the with the country
written in the middle, ok there is a letter I in this yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: ok I think I have this, there is a letter A as well yes
Spectator: yes
Performer: (pause) ok I may need you to visualise being in the country in
a moment as I am struggling now with the letters, there isn’t a letter E
in this is there?
Spectator: No
We now know its Spain or Italy
Performer: ok just visualise being in the country for me, imagine the
sights and sounds and as you do this just say the country over and over
in your mind (pause)………… like Italy Italy Italy
As always if it hits great if it doesn’t we know its Spain.
Let’s now look at a ‘yes’ to all three letters knowing it’s in the west and
following on as always from the script:
Performer: ok Imagine this country for me on the map with the country
written in the middle, ok there is a letter I in this yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: there is a letter A as well yes
Spectator: yes

                                      29
Performer: (pause) ok I may need you to visualise being in this country
in a moment if I begin to struggle with the letters, is that a letter E I am
getting?
Spectator: yes
Now we are down to America or the Caribbean
Performer: yeah I thought so, just imagine the sights and sounds of this
country, ok this is interesting I am getting all sorts here, imagine actually
being in this place for me and as you do say it over and over in your
mind……like America America America
Spectator: Yes!!!!!!!
If it doesn’t hit it’s the Caribbean.
Ok so that’s the West covered, we will now look at the East in detail and
again we will go from the very start.

Spectator: No
Performer: are you sure as I am definitely getting the letter I, just focus
on the country for me, (long pause) ok this isn’t coming through too
strong, (Pause) imagine being there and seeing the sights and hearing
the sounds, ok this is clearer………. this is Japan yes!
Spectator: Yes!!!!!!
Performer: ah that explains the letter I now, I was getting Sushi
Keeping with the East let’s look at a ‘yes’ for the let I and a ‘no’ for the
letter T
Following on from the script:
Performer: Good, and just focus on the countries location for me, ok so
this is in the east yes
Spectator: Yes
Performer: Good, ok Imagine this country for me on the map, with the
country written in the middle, ok there is a letter I in this yes
Spectator: Yes

                                    31
Performer: Ok good, focus on the word, I may need you to visualise being
in the country in a moment if I am struggling to get the word, there’s not
a letter T in this is there?
Spectator: No
We now know its China or India
Performer: Ok please just visualise being in the country for me, Imagine
the sights and as you do say it over and over in your mind
(pause)………….. like China China China
As always if it hits great if it doesn’t we know its India.
Both letters play out like so and one last time lets go from the top for the
cleanest reveal.
I thoroughly hope you have enjoyed Navigator and I hope you use it and
recognise its potential.
So for the last time from the top.

                                    33
             Things to Remember
TURKEY
Please remember throughout this that most people will say erm and look
hesitant if they are thinking of Turkey, and are asked the Europe question
or when they are thinking about whether it is on the east or west of a
map. I have had lots of people think of Turkey and every one of them has
looked hesitant when thinking of this country even if just for a split
second. The second I see them do this, I stop them right there and go for
Turkey.
Morocco in variant 3
Always remember in variant 3 if we know its West to use Morocco as an
example when describing what to do to the participant, this is important!
The script
Please note that my script can be adapted, for example: You could begin
by asking them if they have a partner and what their partners name is. If
you like here you could get them to write down their partners name and
reveal it later at this point. I just change the script slightly to suit, so if it’s
a woman and she’s married then I just adjust the script to your ‘husband’
comes home and tells you he’s taking you to a really nice restaurant,
nothing cheap, like a restaurant that sells a specific cuisine etc etc. The
important bits are a restaurant that sells a ‘specific cuisine’ and ‘taking
ages getting ready’. Although this is scripted you can be flexible with the
words and in fact it’s important to do so in order to make this sound like
you and feel natural to the participant.
So there we have it, a choice of three variants, try them all out and see
which you prefer using.
I felt passionate whilst creating this that everyone would be able to use it,
we all perform differently but I hope you find the one you feel most
comfortable using.

                                        34
I know what you’re thinking, ‘Reese what if they say they don’t have a
partner?’ This is where Peter’s Idea works beautifully, so take a look at
that next. I hope you enjoy Pete’s take on this, I personally feel that he
has taken this effect to another level.

                    Bonus effect
        Wonders of the world
Here is a bonus effect I call ‘Wonders of the world’, which allows us to
guess a country a participant is thinking of and also the landmark they are
thinking of in that country. This takes a fair amount of practice but I
encourage you to put in the time as I promise you the results are worth
the effort. Let’s first have a look at the possible outcomes, we will then
look at the anagram and the script.
Possible outcomes
India- Taj Mahal
China- Great Wall of China (LONG)
Australia- Sydney Opera House
Brazil- Christ The Redeemer (TALL)
Peru- Mata Picchu
Italy- Leaning Tower of Pisa (Leaning) or Colosseum
America- Golden Gate Bridge (LONG), Statue of Liberty (TALL), Mount
Rushmore National Memorial (seeing faces)
France- Eifel Tower (TALL)
Greece- Acropolis of Athens, Parthenon
Egypt- Pyramids
Germany- Brandenburg Gate (LONG)
Jordan- Petra
Mexico- Chichen Itza
These are based on my own research of working this and also they are the
most commonly visited landmarks across the world.
                                     38
We will now take a look at the anagram:
A-----No----- South America? Yes--------Peru or Mexico
                            No-------- Egypt, Greece

I-----No----- Europe? ------Yes--- Germany, France
                           No--- Jordan

In fact I is the first letter----Yes---- India, Italy
                                  No----Go to C question

C-----No------Brazil, Australia

All three letters = China or America

I hope by looking at the anagram you can see how we are back to the
previous principles used, for example…This isn’t Europe is it? And the
‘repeat it principle’ we narrow down the options, once we know the
country we know the land mark and we are then set to reveal the
landmark, the country or both. For some countries there will be more
than one landmark, if you look at the list of possible outcomes you will
see that these again can be narrowed down if you so wish. However, if
you know that it could be more than one landmark such as with Greece,
you could either take a guess at the landmark knowing if it misses you still
get a hit as it’s in the same country or you could just play safe and reveal
the country. If it’s a country with one landmark you only reveal the
landmark.

I really hope this is making sense as this is so powerful and I have kept this
close to my chest for so long but I wanted to hold nothing back in this
book.

                                      39
If you are struggling with this please feel free to contact me, the best place
is usually on Facebook however there will be a group set up for this called
‘Navigator owners group’.

Let’s look at the script and an example:

SCRIPT
Performer: Tony I have had a long interest in landmarks that have been
built around the world, I love the architecture and thought that goes into
them, such as Westminster and Big Ben. I also love the mystery that
surrounds landmarks such as Stonehenge in England. In your mind just
think of a landmark anywhere in the world, but please don’t go for what
I said and please don’t go for anything natural.
(Let’s assume here that Tony has thought of the Taj Mahal in India)
Spectator: Ok I have one in mind
Performer: Great, and what I would like you to do is just imagine the
country that this Landmark is in and also imagine this country as a word
written in the air. I will attempt to pick up on the letters first of all to
warm up.
Performer: Ok There is an A yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: And an I also yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: And the I is the first letter in fact?
Spectator: Yes
We now know it has to be India or Italy because we have asked the ‘I’ is
the first letter in fact question.

                                     40
Performer: Ok, Just imagine being in this country for me and imagine
you are stood next to this Landmark……say the country over and over in
your mind like………..Italy Italy Italy
Now let’s say Italy hits at this point, so that’s one hit but you can take it
further by narrowing down the landmark. Start by asking the spectator to
imagine themselves stood next to it. Ask if its leaning, if it is then it’s the
Leaning Tower of Pisa, if not then it’s the Coliseum. Obviously you would
script this with more detail at this point. However, Tony is thinking of India
and the Taj Mahal so Italy would not be a hit, let’s get back to the script…
Performer: Ok I am getting a hot country, I see a beautiful sunset and
like four towers…….this is the Taj Mahal in India yes
Spectator: Yes!!!!!!
Because we already set ourselves up nicely by asking if I was the first letter
and the spectator said yes we know it has to be India or Italy, If they would
have said no to ‘I’ being the first letter we would have moved onto asking
if there was a letter C.
Let’s look at another example
Performer: Tony I have had a long interest in landmarks that have been
built around the world, I love the architecture and thought that goes into
them, such as Westminster and Big Ben. I also love the mystery that
surrounds landmarks such as Stonehenge in England. In your mind just
think of a landmark anywhere in the world, but please don’t go for what
I said and please don’t go for anything natural
(Let’s imagine Tony has gone for the statue of Liberty in America this time)
Spectator: Ok I have one in mind
Performer: Great, and what I would like you to do is just imagine the
country that this Landmark is in and also imagine this country as a word
written in the air. I will attempt to pick up on the letters first of all to
warm up.

                                      41
Performer: Ok There is an A yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: And an I also yes?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: And the I is the first letter in fact?
Spectator: No
Performer: Ok, you’re doing great, there isn’t a C in this is there?
Spectator: Yes
Performer: Ok, Just imagine being in this country for me and imagine
you are stood next to this Landmark……say the country over and over in
your mind……… like China China China
Now let’s say China hits at this point, so that’s one hit but you can take it
further by revealing the landmark, we know it’s going to be the Great Wall
of China. Start by asking the spectator to imagine themselves stood next
to it. You would then reveal it but ensure you say “now there are many
landmarks in China, just focus on yours for me, this is long and old, this is
the Great Wall of China. Obviously you would again script this with more
detail at this point. However, Tony is thinking of America and the statue
of Liberty so let’s get back to the script…
Performer: I am seeing a face for some reason….. and this is tall rather
than long isn’t it?
This is said in this way as we know they are thinking of America, by using
the word face, both the statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore would fit
with this. Look for a slight reaction here and also by asking if this is tall
rather than long we have eliminated the Golden Gate Bridge and Mount
Rushmore we can go for Statue of Liberty.
Spectator: Yes
Performer: Ok I think I have this, this is the statue of Liberty in America

                                     42
Spectator: Yes!!!!!!!!!

So I hope that the explanation of this makes sense, I would like to mention
a very similar work to this which is bonus effect wonders of the world
which is proteus by Phedon Bilek and I would like to thank Phedon once
again for his support and encouragement in this project, I highly highly
recommend Proteus.
Partly the reason I have shared this bonus effect is my passion to
encourage people to appreciate just how powerful getting more than one
no answer can be, please remember that this makes the spectator believe
that you genuinely have absolutely no idea what they are thinking of so
when we do reveal it, it hits so so hard. Please try this for yourself and I
am confident you will not be disappointed in the reactions you receive.
So that’s it for now, we have reached the end of this journey but I really
hope reading this is just the beginning for you, my hope is that you learn
this system and use it and most importantly that you have enjoyed
reading my thoughts on this plot and that you enjoy using it.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of writing this up and sharing it
with this wonderful community, I will hopefully be back in the future with
more thoughts and Ideas on other things that I have held close for so long
but this will be my first and last word on the name a country idea.
All the best and I hope our paths cross in the future
Best wishes
